Impressions of the Sport 1100 (Carb)
Impressions of the 1100 Sport by Steve Wagner
I bought my 96 Sport (carb.) out of necessity. I crashed and totaled my 89
Lemans V. I didn't really think it was totaled but the insurance company did. They wouldn't give me enough money to fix it but gave me twice as much to total it. I couldn't turn it down. I heard someone immediately bought it on the east coast somewhere. That bike had 60,000 miles on it and was getting better all the time. Anyway, I found this Sport for sale and ,as it turns out, losing that Lemans was a blessing in disguise. This Sport is a huge improvement. Much faster, smoother ride, and better handling. I've gone for rides with my son when he had a Honda Super hawk. His bike would blow me away in a drag race but get into some nice tight curves and in no time at all I would be a quarter mile ahead of him. I wish they would have named the new Sport something else as it doesn't resemble the 95-97 in the least. I've ridden one and yes, it's a nice bike, but it's just so much different from the earlier Sports they should have come up with a different name for it. I'm on my fourth year with this bike now. Not long after I bought it I lost a clutch plate. I've read they had some defective ones. Since then not a single problem.
No electrical problems, no broken cables, not even a burned out light bulb. And it's such a pretty bike it always draws attention, sometimes even from non-bikers. By far, the best bike I have ever owned.
