Impressions of the Convert by VAN
A few of my thoughts on the convert.
I own a 81 convert and it has 60,000 miles on it. To me,
these torque converter models are a pleasure to ride. People that like Moto Guzzi's
would surely like this model. I own a Eldo and a Cal 2 and I enjoy each one and
impressed with the way they are built. The only big difference is the transfer of power
to the wheel. I had to put new ATF fluid seals in and was impressed with the design of
the convert, very strong. The convert is a lot easier to handle in tight or hard
situations. In hilly country where on a 5 speed, you are shifting up and down to keep
the correct RPM for the speed, you just enjoy the scenery. Thanks for reading and
hope to hear more on the Moto Guzzi's in general and converts in particular.

We have 4 Guzzis (pg.23). I love them all for what they do in their own
special way.
My favorite 2 up rig is our `80 Convert. It
keeps me from riding too fast & is great in town or looking @ the scenery.
It's nice not having to think about what gear you need next, & makes in-town riding
much easier. You can go up to 80 in low & 100 in high, both manually shifted.
Even though it lacks a little bit of acceleration it's not a dog. If you are
passing someone & suddenly need more acceleration, you drop it into low & the
bike starts howling & it sounds & feels like you just kicked her into turbo !
We get around 40 mpg on the road & it has a 5.9 gal. tank good for 200 miles.
Judy says the only thing she doesn't like about the
Convert. is that it's so comfy she sometimes wants to fall asleep on it, & in the
corners she doesn't know we are approaching 1 because, unlike our other bikes, my body
doesn't start to set up for the curve, warning her it's coming. Instead we just
motor on thru as if nothing special is about to happen, and that catches her off-guard
sometimes.
We just transferred our sidecar from our Ambassador to our
Convert. so now we have different memories to accumulate with the bike. A
convert./sidecar is REALLY a nice setup. So far all I have had to do to
the bike is add air to the front forks & add another tranny cooler to handle the
extra load.
