Impressions of the V7 Special by Lyman Robertson
I got my Moto Guzzi thru a trade of a 1983 Honda Aspencade that was given to me the wing had 84,000 mi on her I resolved to never own a Honda because of a knowledge of how they are built and from friends that own them I am a motorcycle mechanic tho I have never found enough money to get a job in the field none the less I have been schooled in motorcycle mechanics I have attended MSF as well as Kenny Roberts race school when there was such in Ontario race way in California my first bike was a 250 H.D. sprint I have owned a motorcycle since I was 14 and was licensed in 1968. I built most everything I have owned from the ground up and enjoyed the Euro Bikes the best ...The first time I rode a Moto Guzzi it was in 1972 I was home on Leave from the Army I stopped by a friends house and though he wasn't home his dad was and he had a new Guzzi a 1971 750 Eldorado in the garage and was polishing it I admired it and he said want to take her for a spin I know you know how to ride,,,So I did I took her around the block and when I came back he said to ride it so I rode to a friends house and visited and when I returned he said to really ride it if I had the time I asked how she was on the fwy he said find out so I gassed her up and rode to Bakersfield and back the bike had 1200 mi on it when I returned it had 1500 mi so at that time I remember that the brakes were better than the sprint and had more power handled as well as the sprint.. I like old Bikes they have something that new bikes don't not sure what it is but definite!!!!!!!!! And how 30 years later I have my own. When I first saw her I couldn't believe my eyes she was better in person then the photo I had seen finish was Cycle garden quality but add 5 to 7 years of age and care was a little fade but none the less stunning she has 25,000 mi on her and since it had this off and that off I have found I really have a period built bike a hot cam a stroke set and cylinder sleeved in steel and 30 mm carbs ...THANKs to Cycle Garden and Moto Guzzi classics I have her sorted out.. I wanted a stock Guzzi
but I am beginning to think that is in vane so I have a solo after market H.D. seat and Yamaha left switch and have turn signals a bright red paint some new decals I freshly finished the service (oils and break and bearing )and my first blast around the hill this looks like a good marriage
