Both these highways lead to Cheaha State park in Delta, AL. Hwy 281 enters the park from the west side. This is not a road for the inexperienced rider to challenge. Many sections of the road are just wide enough for one car. Lots of twists, turns and switchbacks that make it difficult to see what's around the next bend. No need to worry about scenary, you'll be too busy to look if you decide to challenge the road. Hwy 49 brings you to the east entrance to the park. It is a well paved road lot's of good turns. Although not nearly the challenge that Hwy 281 is, it's still a great ride...make time through sweepers rather than tight twisties.

Hwy. 25 is a 2 lane highway running from Wilcox County, AL to Leeds, AL. Many of the sections are newly paved. Hwy is complete with plenty of twisties and scenary that's not too boring. The highway runs right by 29 Dreams motorcycle resort in Vandiver, AL where, you can stop off and take a break for coffee or food, even spend the night in one of the tent sites or rent a cabin for the night. Hwy. 25 also teams up with Hwy 78 in Leeds, AL, new home of Barbers Motorsports Park.

I-65 is stricly utilitatian. If you need to get somewhere in a BIG hurry, 65 is the road. Posted speed limit is 70, expect 80, get 90-100 mph. At these speeds you'll be running right next to the 18 wheelers. Hence the excellent excitement factor. Bing a change of undies!

Comments: This road is paved with an unusual amount of gravel content for an interstate highway. Given the extreme speeds that traffic achives and the number of rocks kicked up by cars and trucks, you can expect windshield damage. I have had to repair two windshields from as many trips on this road.

From I-17 (Camp Verde), going SE, Rt. 260 ascends and (gently) twists through volcanic deposits to reach Ponderosa pine country of the Mogollon Rim. Very little traffic, beautiful scenery. Try going NW on this road in spring -- you can see the snow-capped San Francisco Peaks and Red Rock country of Sedona in the distance -- guaranteed to blow your mind.) Continue south through the towns of Strawberry & Pine (these can get crowded with summer PHX visitors), and then the edge of the Mogollon Rim. The descent from the Rim is a nice stretch of twisties, though can be busy traffic-wise. About 10 miles south of Payson (on Hwy 87) is a vast and interesting motorcycle (& bicycle!) salvage yard. Have not gone East of Payson on 260 yet...maybe this weekend!

89a from Flagstaff -- descends through Oak Creek canyon -- lots of hairpin turns, breathtaking scenery...and on the weekends, lots of tourists! From Cottonwood to Prescott -- open vistas, less traffic (though can still get crowded around holidays), excellent road conditions, nice mix of twisties with relaxed 2-lane hiway riding. At the southern terminus, stop & visit Jim Knaup, owner and Guzzi enthusiast, at EP & F in Prescott.

Comments: From Prescott, 89a South begins with miles of 25-30mph (posted) corners. Continues through Peeples Valley, nice high desert scenery. Just before Yarnell is Yarnell Hill -- superb hi-speed sweepers and even a few passing lanes. There are 2 one-way roads on Yarnell Hill, so for the most part there is no oncoming traffic. The uphill road is 2 lanes. Watch for speed traps!

Make sure you fill up in Hollister. There will be no gas for at least 80 miles. Out of Hollister you pass through Tres Pinos and then Paicines (Pop. 130). After that there are about 8 miles of straight road thru vineyards where you can open it up. Then it starts to get fun. twisties go on for many miles with some short straight sections here and there. The scenery is magnificent, especially in the spring when the hills are green and the wildflowers are out. When you reach the end of the road you can go West to Hwy 101 or East to I-5. Comments:All of 93 and 495 in Mass is hell. I hate going there with my car because I'm afraid it'll damage my suspension. Potholes will kill a person on a motorcycle and some of the span 4 lanes of the highway and go as deep as a few layers of pavement. Some potholes are more than a foot deep. Traffic during rush hour is unbearable. Seems like the whole highway is being held together by tar snakes. If you decide to take 93 in Mass, consider it a death wish. Massachusetts overall does not maintain their highway system. 93 NH is smooth and enjoyable, a totally different story from Mass.

If you're traveling in South Jersey, from Philly to the shore points, 55 is the way to go. It's a new, well-maintained highway that dumps you off on old 47 or (better) 247 which cuts through the Pine Barrens. CAVEAT: Crowded in summertime due to beach traffic, especially on Fridays. Weekdays non-rush hours it's great. Watch for Smokey to your left, using median greens to hide in. If you're careful you won't get popped.

From Silver City, heading NW, this road takes you through rolling high desert country, with great sweepers, nice vistas and little traffic. As you approach Glenwood, 180 gets more scenic with more twists. From Glenwood to Luna, even better! -- more twisties, increased elevation to pines & aspens, which continue as you cross the border and arrive at Alpine, Arizona (the road remains 180). From Alpine you can take AZ 191 south, or continue on 180 to Springerville & points west.

This scenic parkway is 35 miles of tranquility and some spectacular views! It stretches from the Port of Rochester to Lakeside Beach State Park. I believe it was originally intended to connect Rochester to Niagara Falls via the south shore of Lake Ontario, but only made it halfway by the 1970's.

The Taconic is a road for riders who want to travel the Hudson River Valley with the speed of a four lane and the scenery of an upstate back road. Parkway rules eliminate all trucks, so passenger cars are your only company. Even weekend traffic on the upper Parkway results in few cars. The Parkway system in New York was originally designed when driving was done for pleasure (hence the no truck rule) and the Taconic is the crowning achievement of that great era. The road is now mostly fresh black-top and offers the rider tunnels of trees in between wide vistas of the Catskills along a rolling double lane with wide yet interesting curves. Fellow bikers abound and each season offers its own version of great views. The Hudson River, with many towns to visit for an afternoon or an overnight stay, is only ten minutes to the West during the entire two hour stretch of road from Albany to upper Westchester County. Excellent roads in their own right cross the Taconic all the way up and down, so take a map and feel free to explore, the results are bound to be good.

This is a great stretch of road from Tahlequah to Success, although it is only about 50 miles total miles. It gets REAL interesting for about 15 miles or so between Langley and Salina. One of my favorites to include in one of my weekend rides. Put it on your list. You wont regret it.

This road north of Muskogee, at least after tourist season, is quiet and incredible hills and curves. A must ride, especially with a sport bike!

This is the back road to Crater Lake. It takes off out of Canyonville (Southern Oregon off of I5. It has everything, beautiful valleys, a river, and some nice curves through the mountains. All of this ending at Crater Lake. It was newly paved about 2 years ago so the surface is excellent. Riding time of year is from about May thru September. It's about a 4.5 hour round trip.. But you will want to spend some time at Crater Lake and the Lodge once you see them.

197 South will take you over Tygh Ridge and down into Tygh Valley. This is a GREAT highway through open high plains country and lightly patrolled. Some high speed sweepers and good surface with light traffic. Now in the Tygh valley you will turn East to Shearer's Bridge and the Deschutes River. This is a small narrow road that is very lightly travelled. You will drop down into the Deschutes river canyon. At the bridge you can go north along the Deschutes river for about 18 miles on a nice;ly gravelled Road. Transplanted Mountain Sheep have taken hold in the last few years and you might get lucky. You will be on one fantastic scenic canyon and a historic river. You have to turn around and come back the same way you went in so if you don't like gravel don't do it. Just keep travelling up the other side of the canyon and go on to Grass Valley. Again this is hardly patrolled, many curves on the upside to more hight plains country. This road is narrow, paved and in fairly good condition. It is open range country and goes on for Miles. Lunch can be had in Grass Valley at many old time places. There is a gas station where a barefoot gal once pumped gas for me and I still have great memories of her brown tanned skin. The road north is #97 and will take you to Biggs on the Columbia River on the same high quality road you started on. This is a great open country ride with scenery that is hard to beat if you like open range country. You can crank on it or just ride and enjoy. About 175 miles in all. One of my favorite rides in any season except winter. The snow is just too tricky at the high spots.

Take Fish Hatchery about 5 miles north of Wonder off Highway 199. This intersect with 238. This will take you through the Applegate Valley. It is a short ride, about one hour, put beautiful. We picked up the Old Stage Road in Jacksonville and took it to Gold Hills and Rogue River. This was a nice route and it keeps you off the Interstate. This ride is best in the Fall and Spring. Enjoy the scenery and people of Southern Oregon

The tunnels are just pure "CRAP". And the curves in the mountain areas are too dangerous.Too many trucks. They should use US Rt.30 as an alternate between Pittsburgh and New Jersey. And the toll is too high.

This stretch of road is one of the most beautiful in Vermont and perhaps in the top 50 in the country. 30 runs north-south from Manchester to Middlebury and includes pristine farmland, scenic views of the Green Mountains, and friendly little towns to rest or spend the night. You will love it, whether riding aggressively with friends or cruising two up for a couples weekend. The entire trip takes about an hour and a half over well maitained roads. Curves alternate between 90 degrees and wide sweepers, with plenty of ooportunities to pass the occasional car in between. Beginning in Manchester you will ride through the perfect Vermont town of Dorset and then begin to twist through open farmland along the Metowee River, a flyfishing delight. Along the way Green Mountain scenery is making it hard to keep your eyes on the road. There are many opportunuties to stop and take pictures for those inclined to do so, or roll through the wide banked corners up toward Lake St. Catherine where the road goes right along the shoreline and brings you out to Poultney, a little town about halfway up. Further North you begin to alternate riding through woods along Lake Bomoseen and the open pasture with mountain vistas that lead to Middlebury where the road joins with Route 7 and disappears. Middlebury and Manchester are destinations in themselves and have all the charm and low key hospitality you would expect from a Vermont town. Once in Middlebury you can round trip by getting out your map and running back on 22A to Poultney, a wide open, well paved two lane with wide sweeping turns that desrves its own space in this forum. Enjoy the ride.

This road goes from Richmond east through plantation country to Williamsburg. Most motorcyclists ride down Route 5 to Jamestown, then take the free ferry to Surry, picking us Route 10 West to S.R. 156 north just outside of Hopewell, then Route 5 West back to Richmond. A great day trip!

Going over the North Cascade Highway is a Scenic trip and challenging. down 97 along the Columbia and over Blewett Pass then back to the Columbia around Yakima, is very varied riding. Most road surfaces are excellent with occasional hill gravel on road. It will keep you sharp! Hard to beat this scenic trip. Plan on two days and stay overnight . Anywhere is good depending on how soon you want to get back home.
